Oh, C'mon, You Always Wondered as Well

I always wanted to know why clouds are fluffy on top, and flat on the bottom.  Yeah, I could look it up on the interwebs, but I figured, go to the source for the official answer.

So I sent an email to Ashton Altieri, the morning weather dude at Channel 9.  You know what, I got a reply in three minutes.  No shit!  Here is what he said:

It’s a great question. Most cloud bases are flat because clouds develop at what is called the “Lifted Condensation Level” or LCL.  This is the level in the sky where the air becomes completely saturated and allows clouds to form.  The level is flat which is why most cloud bases appear flat.

He said I had a great question!!  So there!  Though I didnt have the balls to tell him that I wasn't 7 years old.
