Set Me Free Why Don't Ya Babe?

I was talking to a friend of mine the other night who is straight, but going to Pride this weekend as a show of support to her fellow church members who are proud.  As we were chatting, it was like she had read my blog entries about Prude, but I had not given her the address!

She is taking her daughter, and told her to "be prepared for anything".  That really sums it up, doesnt it?  Prepare to be shocked.  If you think you can't be shocked, think again.  Walk in with an open mind and it is absolutely OK to trash the locals.

But one has to wonder why, as my friend does, how can people who act this way at a public event (drunk, stoned, festive to the point of being obnoxious) think that this will get them equality?  You don't see Methodists doing this.  Hell, not even Baptists!  Want to be brought into the mainstream? Then act like the mainstream.  Don't flaunt it, don't flame it.  Be yourself, but don't be that gay.

Kinda difficult to really put into words what I am thinking.  Don't want to be a gay gay-basher, but on the other hand, someone has to say this.  I guess all that can be said is have fun.  Remember, they are watching.
